Most single-family roofs in DFW are torn off and replaced in one day. Here's how to get ready and what the day looks like.
The day before
- Move vehicles out of the garage and driveway.
- Take down wall hangings on walls that share the roof line. Vibration can shake them.
- Cover items in the attic if it's used for storage. Some dust will fall.
- Mow the lawn short so the magnetic sweep finds every nail.
- Plan for pets and kids to stay away from the work area.
Install day
- Early morning: crew arrives, protects landscaping and sets up a dumpster or trailer.
- Tear-off: old shingles and underlayment come off down to the decking.
- Decking check: soft or rotted boards are replaced and photographed.
- Dry-in: synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield and drip edge go on.
- Shingles, flashing and vents: new roof installed to manufacturer specifications.
- Cleanup: magnetic nail sweep, debris haul-off and final photos.
After the install
You'll get a final walkthrough, photos, your invoice and warranty registration. If insurance is involved, we send your carrier what they need to release any withheld depreciation.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be home during installation?
No, but we ask that someone is reachable by phone. We need access to an exterior outlet and a clear driveway.
What if it rains?
We watch the forecast closely and only tear off what can be dried-in the same day. If weather threatens, we reschedule.
